For more than three decades, Mazdak Alipour has performed, composed and taught the kamancheh internationally. Born in Khorramabad, Iran, he began his musical journey under the guidance of his father, master kamancheh player Faraj Alipour.

Rooted in the maqâms, poetry and living musical traditions of Lorestan, his artistic practice brings together traditional repertoire, original composition, Persian folk fusion and improvisation. As a Lori vocalist and kamancheh soloist, he carries the sound and spirit of the Zagros Mountains into contemporary performance.

Awards & recognition

Mazdak is a two-time Global Music Awards winner, receiving Silver and Bronze Medals in 2020 and 2021.

International performances & collaborations

His career includes concerts and cultural collaborations across North America, Europe and Asia. He has appeared as a featured soloist with the Silkroad Project under the direction of composer Tan Dun, performed for UNESCO Mozart Day in France, and collaborated with UCLA through concerts and educational initiatives.

Recordings & publications

As a recording artist and composer, Mazdak has released more than twenty albums and authored Taal, a book devoted to Lori music for the kamancheh.

His work spans concert halls, festivals, cultural programs, private events, film projects and music education. Each performance is shaped for its audience while remaining connected to the musical heritage of Lorestan.
